About Manor Memories
Manor Memories is a project run by the Sheffield Manor Parish with funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund as part of their All Our Stories initiative. The project launches in January 2013 and it is hoped that it will be completed by November 2013.
The project has two key components: collecting and recording oral histories of residents, past and present, of the Manor parish; and researching the heritage of the local area. The Manor parish covers a large area including the Manor estate and parts of Norfolk Park. It incorporates Prince of Wales Road, City Road, Granville Road and everything in between.
We will be producing a booklet and a DVD, along with a walking trail of the area. The project is important to us because we want to make sure that stories don’t get lost but get passed on to future generations. It will also bring together members of the community with a common goal.
We are looking for people to be part of the project which includes being interviewed on a voice recorder and later filmed for the DVD, visits to Manor Lodge and Norfolk Heritage Park, coming to talks by local speakers about the area or about social history, learning how to research heritage with sessions at Sheffield Archives and Manor Lodge and taking part in reminiscence workshops, including making memory boxes.
